Maintenance Assistant

Newport Thin Film Laboratory Inc. is currently seeking a maintenance assistant. A great attitude, and commitment to continuous growth are required, with some experience in manufacturing/maintenance preferred.  Responsibilities will include: daily sweeping and mopping of production/warehouse areas, general cleaning responsibilities, assistance with cleaning of machinery/tooling, and preventative maintenance pertaining to industrial equipment/facilities. The maintenance assistant candidate will be provided with on the job training in our specific field. Candidate must be team oriented, excited to learn new processes and skills, and show dedication, focus, and pride in keeping our facility and industrial equipment running at peak efficiency.


  • High School Diploma
  • Mechanical ability/experience
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools
  • Heavy lifting required


Coating Technician

NTFL is currently seeking for a full-time, motivated and hardworking individual to join the Optical
Coating Department. Experience is not required, training will be provided to all new hires. Hands-on training provided in all aspects of the job. Candidate must be competent in using machinery and computers. Needs to be self-motivated and be able to work independently as well as a team member. Typical training period is approximately 2 to 3 months. Coating runs vary in length and can require flexibility in schedule. Saturdays may be needed for runs or cleaning the chamber in order to keep on production schedule.


  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Good work ethic, attention to detail, initiative, adaptability, integrity.
  • Operate High Vacuum chambers and components.
  • Be mechanically inclined.
  • Have manufacturing Experience (Machine Operating).
  • All applicants must be proficient in MS Office and Internet Explorer.
  • Read and follow work instruction and routers.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Must be able to sit unsupervised for long periods.
  • Work requires precision and detail.
  • Heavy lifting required.


Quality Inspector/Cleaning Technician

NTFL is currently looking to fill the position of Quality Inspector/Cleaning Technician. Candidate
must have attention to detail and be a multi-tasker. Experience is not required, training will be
provided to all new hires.


  • Maintains quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products; recording quality results.
  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
  • Approves in-process production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.
  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
  • Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database.
  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; calling for repairs.
  • Accomplishes quality and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Cleans optics with different solvents to ensure best coating adhesion.
  • Tools and secures optics before coating.
  • Heavy lifting required.
